Workspot Agent for Windows 3.5.0

Latest update: June 27, 2023 by Robert Plamondon

Highlights

  • Agent now reports connection and session data for users of RD Server pools as well as desktop pools.
  • Agent now reports the values of the following Windows Remote Desktop policy settings, if set: "Configure image quality for RemoteFX Adaptive Graphics," "Use advanced RemoteFX graphics for RemoteApp," "Prioritize H.264/AVC 444 graphics mode for Remote Desktop Connections," and "Configure H.264/AVC hardware encoding for Remote Desktop Connections." Workspot desktops honor all these settings, so this information is useful in troubleshooting.
  • Agent now reports the Windows Power Scheme settings of Workspot desktops. Inappropriate settings can cause problems with Workspot desktops, so this information is useful in troubleshooting.
  • If someone uses two Workspot RD/RD Pool applications simultaneously, Agent now reports this unambiguously as two independent sessions instead of one.
  • Initial Agent support for the upcoming Workspot Media Extension package. (The feature also depends on the upcoming Client-side components, which will be available initially for the Workspot Web Client.) Agent will auto-install the Cloud Desktop component of the Media Extension automatically. This installation is visible in the Windows “Add or Remove Programs” app:

Known Issues

  • Customers with Workspot GCP power management currently need to disable all power management on their templates and desktops in order to leave these tasks to Workspot. Set "Turn Off Display After" to "Never," disable sleep and hibernation, and set the Power Plan to "High Performance." Otherwise, both performance and power management may be erratic.

Automatic Updates

On persistent desktops, the Agent service checks for updates once every 24 hours, so these virtual machines are updated within 24 hours of a new release provided they are running and have connectivity to Workspot Control.

Newly cloned desktops check for Agent updates just once after being cloned.

Non-persistent desktops, preview-mode templates, and published templates do not auto-update. See Control:  Applying Updated Images to Desktop Pools and Using Workspot Templates for more information.

Manual Download and Installation

Manual installation is rarely necessary. The procedure is given in Workspot Agent Installation and Configuration.

Supported Platforms

  • For Workspot Desktops: Currently Windows 10 Enterprise 22H2, 21H2, and 20H2, and Windows 11 Pro and Enterprise 22H2 and 21H2.
  • For Workspot Apps and RD Pools: Windows Server 2019 and 2016. (Remote Desktop Services with RD Session Host role must also be installed.)
  • See Workspot OS and Hardware Requirements .
